Attendance and Absence
We want every child to enjoy school, achieve their full potential and develop positive habits for the future. Good attendance plays a vital role in children's learning, wellbeing and friendships. We work closely with families to support good attendance and are here to help if your child is experiencing difficulties attending school.
Attendance Matters
Regular attendance helps children to:
- Build strong friendships
- Make good academic progress
- Develop confidence and resilience
- Take part fully in school life
Need Support?
If your child is finding it difficult to attend school, please contact us as early as possible. Our Attendance Lead is Mrs Sarah Wagland, she will be happy to meet to understand any barriers and discuss how we can support your child and family. Call the school office on 0117 9031447 or email shirehamptonp@bristol-schools.uk
Reporting an Absence
If your child is unable to attend school, please report their absence as soon as possible on the first day.
The easiest way to do this is through the Arbor Parent App.
Alternatively, you can contact the school office by telephone.
Please provide:
- Your child's name
- Their class
- The reason for their absence
- When you expect them to return
Medical Appointments
Where possible, please arrange medical and dental appointments outside school hours.
If this isn't possible, please let the school office know in advance and provide evidence of the appointment where requested.
Leave of Absence During Term Time
The Department for Education does not permit holidays during term time except in exceptional circumstances.
Requests for leave of absence should be made in writing to the Headteacher using the appropriate request form. Each request is considered individually in line with government guidance.
